Antique Gem Deco
I love looking at antique rings, and recently while doing so I was inspired to create a nail design themed around a common feature that many antique rings display.
Here is an example of the style of which I’m speaking:

The way the smaller stones surround the main stone is the specific part that interested me. I played around with that idea, but in autumn-appropriate colors:
The brown base is OPI’s “I’m Fondue of You.” I surrounded larger gemstones with tiny nail bullion beads to mimic the antique deco look.
Here is a close-up of the antique gem decoration:
While my nail polish was still tacky I attached the larger gems and encircled them in the nail bullion beads. Then I stuck the smaller gems around the main stone in a bit of a sideways stripe. I think this is one of my favorites. :)

I’ve been following your website for a while now, and I’m always excited to see your new designs. I absolutely love them! However, each time I see a new design, I always have the same question… How do you keep your nails so long without them breaking? With me, it’s like a curse that as soon as my nails are all the same length and ready to be painted, one always breaks! I have pretty short nail beds, so my nails have to be grown out fairly long for any fancy manicures to look good. Please, tell me your long nail secrets! :)

Wait… Your nails are real, right? They look natural, anyway!

Rachel,
My secret is 5mg of Biotin a day. Just two years ago I wanted to start this website, but my nails were too weak, brittle and short. I started taking Biotin and I actually have to cut my nails now! Before they’d always break off by themselves. :)
It’s a cheap B vitamin supplement that you’ll be able to find at any grocery store. (Don’t buy 3mg though, as you need at least 5mg to really see a difference.) Your nails will grow faster and get a bit thicker, but give it at least a week of taking it to notice the difference.

Natalie,
I don’t have a post like that; I didn’t think anyone would care to read it! Maybe I’ll add some blurbs to the “About” page. I’m an art student, I love painting with watercolors. Most of those skills transfer over. Nails are like tiny little canvases. :)
Thanks for asking!
